Story behind the picture
This is one of the most meaningful moments in my past as a photographer. I was in Viñales, a town of less than 30k people in Cuba. I was walking through the streets and tried to connect with people. This woman was sitting on her armchair with the open door, so I asked if I could come in just hang out a little. So we ended up sitting there for a couple of hours, drinking beer and smoking cigars. She told me that her son had gotten sick and that she was struggling to help pay his medical bills back in Havana. It was a very memorable encounter, and one that I was able to capture in the moment she was covered in the smoke of her cigar.
